CLACK, THWACK, SMASH, CLASH! [in case you’re studying figurative language these days, that’s onomatopoeia at its finest]. These were, also, the sounds heard echoing in the NIS playground for the last couple of weeks because of the renovations taking place. The school always races against time to provide its students with the best facilities. This time, they decided to split the old cafeteria into an art room, a physics lab, and a CrossFit box.
“We needed [the space] to create a CrossFit, physics lab, and an art room; that’s why we provided the two extra food stands”, said High School Principal, Dr. Alaa Aziz.
The high school division already has both chemistry and biology labs; it was time to add a physics lab to aid students with their practical section of the semester exams.
Then there’s Art. It’s a passion, a talent, and a viable method of self-expression. So, why not designate an area for students who intend on majoring in art in college? Art teachers, Ms. Maria Hanna along with Ms. Nouran Amr and Ms. Manal Kamal will be responsible for the room and supervise its functions. Lucky for them, the NIS Seniors who intend on majoring in art have already started working on their portfolios under the supervision of Hanna and will soon have a room to work in.
We can’t forget about the importance of physical education; it is important because as the Greek philosopher Thales said, “a sound mind in a sound body”. As a result, the school dedicated part of the old cafeteria to CrossFit and boxing. Work-out supplies used to be stored in a small space beside the Bagel Brothers’ stand [ever providing us with delicious and nutritious bagles] which they needed for their own supplies. This increased the need for a separate CrossFit room which is the only one that is fully completed and is currently in use.
“[The rooms] will be done and ready for students to use soon,” said Aziz when asked about the renovations.
NISians, rejoice! Everyone will now be able to pursue their hobbies whether science, art or sports! Long live the Empire!
