NIS has been proudly raising generations that are conscious about their environment.
On Saturday the 27th of October, Dar Al Handasah visited NIS-American at the First Settlement campus and made the school part of an initiative to give back to the environment; the school hosted a recycling workshop under the name “Green Apple Day”. Students were chosen from the fourth and fifth grades to participate in the event.
Dar El Handasah discussed environmental issues that the world faces today; they also educated the students on how to reserve, reuse and recycle resources.
Among the topics discussed were Solar Panels and how they work to convert energy absorbed from the sun into electricity. Students were keen how solar panels help save the planet and reduce the negative impact on it.
After absorbing the information they received throughout the workshop, the students were inspired to further understand how they, as individuals, can help the environment. They were guided to carry out projects such as creating trash bins out of used water bottles, holder for plant pots out of used car tires, as well as reusing car tires to make chairs and miniature tables .
Seeing the students work hard to help the environment in their own way was truly inspiring and NIS hopes to see them carry these responsibilities on their way to adulthood and pass them along to their friends and family.
NIS received a certificate of participation from Dar Al Handasah for hosting “Green Apple Day” and involving its students in the initiative.
