Fun, creativity, and imagination are what come to mind when the word art is mentioned; and that was exactly what the NIS students at the Nasr City Campus experienced at their annual Art Day.
We all know that art is essential to our daily lives, it helps in the development of creative thinking and plays a major role in reflecting cultures and traditions which increases tolerance, love, and acceptance among people. It is an effective way of communicating ideas and for these reasons, NIS works on development of these fundamentals within the students.
Every student has a talent and that is why NIS takes Art Day as an opportunity to showcase, nurture and encourage the students’ artistic talents.
The event took place in the Nasr City playground during the first session for the third grade, and during the second session for the fourth grade. Art teachers were available to assist any of the little artists.
Each class sat in a circle and took out their Canson paper (in case you didn’t know, it is a type of paper that is specially made for artistic use) and started drawing pictures of anything they wanted. Their artwork could be based on either reality or imagination. The school also provided them with colors to allow them to bring their pieces to life.
If your talent did not entail drawing from scratch, there was no problem because there were ready drawn pictures and required coloring; choosing the right color scheme is an artistic talent in itself.
Finally, after all the students were done, the art teachers chose the best drawings and colored pictures. In order to grant the students with a sense of accomplishment and in efforts to boost their self-esteem, the chosen art pieces were scheduled to be hung around the playground walls.
“We always work on emphasizing and encouraging our students’ talents and showing it,” said Ms. Amany Refat, Assistant to the Director of the National School at the Nasr City campus.
