The moment a student, parent, or staff member joins NIS, they become family; because that’s what we are. We define ourselves as a community and carry each other through the best of times and the worst of times. It doesn’t stop at education. Our brick and mortar schools are just the beginning; they’re what bring us together. After that, we become bonded by the common identity of what it means to be NISian. We are family.
As some of you may have heard, an unfortunate accident took place on January 28th, 2019, which shook the NIS community to its core. One of our beloved students at the Sherouk campus, 16 year-old Karim Ahmed, was hospitalized after sustaining numerous injuries when his bicycle was pushed off road by a careless truck driver. He was reported to be in critical condition and remains in the Intensive Care Unit.
The heartbreaking news came as a shock to everyone. It seemed there were students and staff in each of the NIS campus who knew Karim and called him “friend”. For everyone who knows him, they know his smile, his heart, and his fierce friendship. For those that never met him, they look forward to welcoming home.
“Karim is loved by everyone and always willing to help anyone in anything they needed. Whether their issue was academic or personal he was always there,” said eleventh grader, Merna Kamel.
We all know that academics at NIS is challenging. After all, it’s still a school… and a demanding one at that. But, it’s in hard times like these that we see the true and beautiful spirit of the NIS community. Students, parents and staff members have come together in support of Karim and his family. Posts have gone viral on social media asking everyone to come together and pray. People that know him and those that don’t, have asked God to provide him with a full and speedy recovery.
Please join our hearts and voices as we ask God to grant his family and friends:
…strength in their vulnerability,
…power in their powerlessness
…faith in this time of fear
…and the will to get through these difficult times.
We ask everyone to remember Karim and his family and friends in their prayers and keep sending love and support your own way.
