“If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love.”
Valentine’s Day is known for its romantic vibes, for the gifts sent or received, the heart shaped chocolates, the dates, and the flowers. But is it ever enough? Is it really all about Aphrodite and Adonis? Love shouldn’t be celebrated one day in a year, it should be celebrated every day, and not only with a significant other, but with family and friends. Whether single or not, everyone should celebrate love.
This past Valentine’s Day, the NIS community celebrated in a variety of ways and with different people. The hallways were filled with smiles as staff and students wished each other a happy Valentines. Love spread throughout NIS with the simplest gestures; a flower, a chocolate, a card or a heart shaped pen.
Some spent the day with their families; nothing beats quality time with the the people that show unconditional love. Feeling the warmth and affection of a mother, father, sister or brother was all the love they needed.
Others spent the day with their squad; be it a group of girls or guys, spending time with friends is always fun. Whether it was dinner, coffee or just hanging out memories were made and heartfelt moments were shared. There were ones that enjoyed the day in the company of their pets, cuddled up at home with their cat or dog; after all, aren’t they our companions?
It isn’t really about how you spend the day but rather who you spend it with. The point is to spread and share love with people that matter. Valentine’s Day is about appreciating, valuing, and thanking everyone in your life who helped you up, cheered you up, cared for you, and motivated you.
Here at NIS, we don’t wait for Valentine’s Day to express appreciation for one another, we do it everyday. We believe in the importance of spreading positive vibes and creating an atmosphere that is inclusive and safe. Don’t feel left out at any time, there is always someone that loves you. Sometimes people get lost, lose hope and that why everyone should be celebrated on Valentine’s Day; feeling loved can change someone’s life.
