The time has come and the NIS elementary bees have gotten busy competing for their S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G legacy!
Throughout the school year, elementary students at both Sherouk and First Settlement campuses are constantly introduced to exciting new words in the efforts of expanding and enriching their vocabulary. This process is an ongoing practice for their spelling ability and encourages them to challenge themselves; it prepares them for the long awaited Spelling Bee!
The elementary division began with preliminary qualifiers from classes of all grade levels; the best speller in a class would get the opportunity to compete against his counterpart from another class during the final competition. The Spelling Bee does not only aim to improve spelling skills but it is also inter-correlated with their comprehensive and reading skills; they become acquainted with vocabulary that they will continue to use and impress others with.
According to the Elementary School Vice Principal at the Sherouk campus, Ms. Aya Ghraoui, “this year’s contestants flabbergasted the crowd by transcending their grade level[s]. The Spelling Bee is a great educational event as it encourages teachers, parents, and the community at large, to participate in the educational process of challenging students and boosting their vocabulary.”
C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S to the winners of this year’s event who left the audience in awe with their skills and cuteness. For those who did not make it to the finals, keep practicing and let this year’s Spelling Bee motivate you for winning next year’s.
NIS always strives to make learning an enjoyable and nontraditional experience through a variety of events, excursions and activities such as this one.
