Students from NIS-American at the First Settlement were invited to attend Hayah International Academy’s 9th annual Model United National (HIAMUN) conference. Other schools in Egypt were also invited to attend the three-day conference. Delegates were warmly welcomed at this year’s orbit themed event with smiles as well as food and drinks from Mince, Raw, Nescafe, Lamar, and Cinnabon.
For years, NIS students have worked hard and mastered their debate and research skills through a number of Model United Nations programs at different schools and campuses. Not only do they enhance their abilities as delegates, but they also further develop their social and networking skills.
This year, NIS students raised the bar among their peers as they were recognized for their effort and achievement throughout the event. Delegates and eleventh graders Hamzah Wareh and Ali Matany received the Best Delegate award; they showed excellent debating skills. In addition, twelfth grader, Ziad Wareh recieved an Honorable Mention.
According to Ms. Kathleen O’Neil, IB Vice Principal and MUN Director, “the HIAMUN is one of the conferences our students enjoy. This year they were determined to receive the best delegate award and at least one honorable mention and they did just that! I am very proud of my students for their ability to set a goal for themselves and successfully achieve it. Over the past three years, this is by far one of the best achievements for us.”
Students got to experience not only educational benefits but also knowledge of world-wide issues that tackle political, social and humanitarian issues. Students had the opportunity to establish new friendships as well as reconnect with their peers from the Sherouk campus.
