This year NIS had the opportunity to attend the 2019 conference of the Budapest International Model United Nations (BIMUN). The conference was hosted by Eötvös József Gimnázium in the historic district of downtown Budapest. Eleven students spent many hours of intensive training preparing for this conference.
Under glimmering antique chandeliers, in the historic Urania Theatre, students enjoyed the Opening Ceremonies that signaled the start of their MUN adventure! Our senior team member spoke during the opening ceremony and received a round of applause for her thought provoking questions; the NIS students were truly motivated to show what they practiced, learned and prepared for.
Student participants were: Noureen Farnawany Grade 12, Abdallah Medhat Grade 9, Ali El Deweny Grade 9, Haneen Khaled Grade 9, Hannah Samir Grade 9, Karim Dessouky Grade 9, Kenzi Moawad Grade 9, Nadim Tantawy Grade 9, Nesreen Hamdy Grade 9, Nour Hesham Grade 9, Omar Zalat Grade 9. They were supervised by Dr. Heather Browne and Salma Abdellatif with support from MUN Inc.
The NIS students represented Mexico and the Dominican Republic and co-sponsored a resolution that successfully passed in the General Assembly.
All of the months of preparation proved to be fruitful and the students successfully completed their MUN journey and are already planning for next year! NIS provides such experiences for its students as a way to nurture and develop both their academic and social skills.
Any students interested in joining the MUN team, they should contact Dr. Heather Browne at the Sherouk campus or Kathleen O’Neil at the First Settlement campus.
