“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin
This year Advanced Education gave its students, teachers, staff and parents the opportunity to live “a thousand lives” with its annual Book Fair.
Following the success of the Shorouk campus, jungle themed, book fair, we brought the jungle to the first settlement campus. The event took place on the 17th of November and lasted until the 19th.
The Fair started at 8:00 AM and ended at 3:30 PM, daily. In an effort to ensure that all students and teachers got a chance to find their next good read, schedules were set and followed. In addition to break time, students from all divisions were granted forty minutes to discover the available booths and books. Class by class, teachers escorted the students down to the field. Parents were also invited for some intellectual shopping between of 2:50 PM to 3:30 PM.
This year’s exquisite choice of exhibitor’s provided a variety of books that would appeal to the minds of everyone; consider it food for the mind and soul. The exhibitors included EMCO Marketing, Nahdet Misr, AUC Press, AUC Bookstore, 80 Fekra, Dar El Shorouk, and Beta Bookstore.
Each of the exhibitors offered an exclusive 10% discount for Advanced Education students. Another percentage was granted to the school library, a percentage of the exhibitors’ profit given to the school in the form of books that will be available to the NIS community. The books that are to be put in the library were meticulously chosen by Elementary Principle, Ms. Rana El Afify, High School Principle Dr. Alaa Aziz, IB Coordinator, Ms. Soha Samir and Head of the Arabic Department, Mr. Abdellatif El Hawary.
The Book Fair theme was inspired by Scholastic’s official Book Fair theme for this year. The whole event was organized by Mr. Tamer Abdullah under the supervision and support of Dr. Fadia Atef, the Superintendent of International Schools at Advanced Education.
Our aim was to encourage and promote reading throughout the school by providing books that are suitable for the different age groups and tastes. I realized that we truly succeeded when I saw how parents engaged in the book fair with their children. With this annual event, we didn’t only strengthen the children’s association with books but we also contributed in strengthening family bonds” said Mr. Tamer Abdullah
