For the second consecutive year, the IB students were invited to attend and take part in the Egyptian Society of Cardiology (EgSC)’s annual conference, Cardio Egypt. It is a medical-based conference which discusses mainly heart problems and conditions and aims to raise awareness among the Egyptian society.
Students were welcomed by a panel of renowned doctors who discussed heart diseases and how to prevent them. They tackled the issues of smoking, lack of exercise and unhealthy diet or nutrition plans.
NIS students, as well as students from Nefertari School, presented multiple PowerPoint presentations to the panel; they demonstrated knowledge of the topic, provided possible solutions and asked remarkable questions.
The IB students, such as eleventh grader Laith Khaled, provided first hand personal experiences that related to topics of discussion. He shared his successful weight loss journey; his father and himself motivated each other until they reached their desired results.
At the end of the session, students were introduced to Tai Chi which a form of Chinese martial art that is practiced for both defense training and personal health benefits. Trainer and expert, Ahmed Shabaan shared a number of success stories of individuals in different parts of the world who became healthier after Tai Chi became a part of their daily routine. Many of the students were intrigued to look deeper into the concept and give it a try.
For the second year, the students are able to master their presentation as well as their analytical skills. They gain new information that will aid them in living a long healthy life and encourage them to raise awareness within their community. Students at NIS are taught to give back to the community and always try to make a difference in the world.
“Presenting at such an event for the second consecutive year is an honor. It also gives us the opportunity to try to make a difference as well as learn from esteemed experts in the field of cardiology,” explained eleventh grader Ahmed El Sherif.
In appreciation for their the effort and participation, the students received a certificate in the name of Dr. Nermien Ismail Schools.
